Councillor Profiles

John Burgess


John was born in Cirencester and attended the local Grammar School. He has over 25 years local government experience, both as an employee and as a Councillor. John has been the Beeches and Kingshill Ward member for 8 years and for the last 3 years he has been a Cabinet member of Cotswold District Council.

John is a founder member of Cirencester Athletics Club and is a well known athletics coach. He is a former Chairman of the Governors of Cirencester County Infants School. He put forward the original proposals for CCTV in Cirencester and saved residents of the Beeches thousands of pounds by researching and showing that sewer repairs in parts of North Home Road were a local authority responsibility. He also proposed the study which led to the new Cirencester Leisure Centre.

Richard Dickinson

Richards family hails from Moreton in the Marsh but he was born in Middlesex. After serving 25 years policing the streets of London where he specialised in traffic and motor vehicles, he joined the Road Transport Industry Training Board at Wembley. From there he moved to BL Cars in Coventry as a Sales and Service Trainer. Subsequently head hunted to Jaguar Cars he took on the role as Senior Training Executive, Sales and Marketing. This work involved travel to some 40 countries world wide At this time he was a Town Councillor and School Governor in Kenilworth. On his eventual retirement he moved to Sussex where he was elected to Arun District Council. He served 8 years and left as Chairman of the Council in 2003. He moved to Stratton in 2005 in order to be nearer his relatives, so finds himself in the Cotswolds from where his family started. His main hobby has been steam railways and he has worked as a Guard on the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway at Toddington behind such locos as Flying Scotsman and City of Truro. He is a keen member of Cirencester Probus Club and serves on the Executive Committee of Cirencester Hospital League of Friends,

Geoffrey Adams

Geoffrey Adams has lived in the centre of Cirencester for thirteen years. Amongst his many varied interests in the town, which include membership of Action Cirencester and Corinium Talking News, he is also Vice Chairman of the Civic Society and has served on the Town Council representing Park Ward for the last six years and is currently Mayor of Cirencester. Prior to moving to The Cotswolds he lived in Surrey, commuting into London every day, where his company manufactured women's and children's tailored outerwear. He served his National Service in the Royal Air Force. Married now for forty five years he and his wife, Tecla, have five children and five grand-children."
